They wove in their homes, in the light and shade of a small room, through long winter nights. Tireless, generous, creative. Custodians of a skill learned from their mothers and grandmothers. The Sardinian weavers, bent over their looms, weaving threads and colours into beautiful tapestries. It is thanks to them that an art that has become the heritage of an entire island has been preserved and passed down. Our Telai (looms) series of scarves is dedicated to these women.
SA SPOSA
Drawing inspiration from the geometric patterns of Sardinian rugs, not intended as a “classic” rug to be spread out on the floor, but as product created on the loom to cover the trousseau chest. In the past, when a girl took a husband, it was a widely used for the family to prepare her trousseau, this was stored in a decorated and carved chest. The chest was then covered by the "coperibanga" or "copericascia" (the chest or trunk cover). Later the same workmanship would be transferred to other products such as tapestries, rugs, blankets, pillows, saddlebags and curtains.
